Publication & Graphic Design

A major function of marketing at the Cleveland Leadership Center (CLC) is the creation and design of multi-page books. CLC creates two types of multi-page books, the Program Book and the People Book. These books are distributed at CLC commencement events, alumni events, celebration events, and others. The work I do is similar to that of a graphic designer. I design the overall look and feel for the book, and work with the marketing team and program directors to ensure all needs are met. My most recent creative work can be found in the Leadership Cleveland, Class of 2015, People Book.

Leadership Cleveland, Class of 2015, People Book
11x17 at 35 pages. Pictured below is a two page spread.

In 2015, the Director of Leadership Cleveland, Marcy Levy Shankman PhD, started working with Johnine Byrne, a graphic recorder, to document and capture the program days to function as a tool to help recall the program session days. Marcy came to me with the idea to revamp the People Book. In our conversation she mentioned needing the following; the new graphic recording images at a large size, and the book should function as a keepsake for the participants.

The solution I created involved adding a new section to the People Book. I titled it, “LC Class of 2015 Year-In-Review.” The first page poses the question, Where has the time gone? and follows up with two paragraphs I co-wrote with the director. They challenge the participants to figure out what they will do to create positive change in the Cleveland community, while showing them group photos of themselves and their classmates. The rest of this section takes them through the program year. Each two page spread focuses on a single session day, and displays elements in a visual collage, including participant reflection quotes, photos of the day, and graphic recording images if there were any. Additionally each spread included a short framing paragraph about the session day. This product received multiple compliments from the recipients. Below are examples of two spreads from the book.
